Effects of Substrate Flow Regime on Bacterial Dynamics in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR). E. Davis_, and T. Rector_ _University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, and _Dynamac Corporation, Kennedy Space Center, FL.
A bioreactor system was evaluated for the treatment and recycling of wastewater. The design and implementation of an efficient system for the oxidation of organic compounds was assessed. The evaluation of an aerobic continuous stirred tank reactor system (CSTR) of a glucose oxidizing bacterial community is suggested. The results presented are of studying the effects of different operating conditions using either a continuous feed or a pulse feed of an influent substrate containing micronutrients. The influent, effluent, and bacterial mixture were analyzed to determine estimations of microbial activity and density. A lag was noted in the Volatile Suspended Solids (VSS) and the live cells for both systems, but may not indicate a considerable deviation from the continuous fed reactors.
